Just ordered my 3rd 8530

My phone keeps losing the network. It will say 3G for a few seconds then say 1x, then search for network, then no service. About an hour later, repeat. Every time this happens Verizon gives me a new phone. Its annoying.

Anyone else experiencing this? They told me the "radio" inside the phone that connects to the network is bad. In the meantime I activated my old Green ENV. Great reliable phone.

Verizon 2010/2011 Roadmap Leaked… BlackBerry Not Even Mentioned

Leaked Verizon Roadmap

A BGR Source has leaked Verizon roadmap plans for the remainder of 2010, 2011, and even a bit of 2012.  There is a lot of focus on LTE and Android, however, news about Research in Motion and upcoming BlackBerry devices was not present on the roadmap at all.

It is clear that Verizon is putting its money on Android, however, it will be interesting to see if big red, who once accounted for 40% of all of Research in Motion’s revenue, will continue to push BlackBerry devices, or, relegate it’s former flagship smartphone line to “devices they still sell” status.

Leaked Verizon 2010/2011 Roadmap

  • In addition to the Motorola DROID and Motorola DROID X, we’re told Motorola will launch a new DROID handset, the Motorola DROID Pro. It is supposed to have a 1.3GHz CPU, 4? screen and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010
  • Motorola is working with Verizon on a “slab form-factor” device that sort of looks like an old Motorola Q but features a full touchscreen and global roaming. It will run Android 2.2. Maybe this will be a lower cost, MOTOBLUR handset?
  • There are a lot more Android invasions happening before the end of the year, we’re told. This includes a global Android device from both Samsung and HTC.
  • Samsung is working on a 7? screen Android tablet with front-facing camera. Motorola is also working on a tablet as well, except it will sport a 10? screen, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz CPU, front-facing camera, and Android 3.0. Don’t expect the Motorola so soon though, as we’re informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011.
  • Verizon Wireless is aiming and on track to have at least 75% of the country covered in LTE coverage by April 2012
  • There will be a Novatel LTE MiFi device available in January or February that will apparently support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users.
  • Lastly, we’re told LTE data pricing will stick at $59.99/month, though it’s unclear what the data allowance will be. (This is for data cards, not smartphones)

Porting a BB from Alltel to Verizon.

Ok, I have a silver Alltel 8130 here from my old Alltel plan before I switched to Verizon after the merger. I’m trying to find out how to get this phone set up so it can be used on a Verizon plan.

I did a ton of google searches and I’m seeing things about unlock keys / ESN, flashing the phone, etc. I also took note of the many people that have success stories about using their 8130s on Verzion…on a real Verizon contract, not a grandfathered Alltel contract. I read numerous articles about Verizon’s "Open Network Policy", and how both Alltel and Verizon are CDMA, and how there *should* be nothing in the way of using this phone on Verizon’s network since it’s all compatible.

So what exactly do I need to do to use this Alltel 8130 on a Verizon contract? Reason for wanting to know is because I’d like to sell the phone + extras, but it will be hard unless I can assure the buyer "Yes, it can be used on Verizon, here’s how…"

Server-based email messages?

I have a Storm 2, and it recently locked up. When I restored using desktop manager, I now receive the following email messages, and usually 15-20 times a day. It is driving me crazy! I have talked to several sales associates in my Verizon store, and no one seems to have a clue how to stop them.

BlackBerry 9800 slider Approved by FCC

BlackBerry Slider 9800

We are only 1hr away from the RIM and AT&T event and everyone is expecting to see the BlackBerry Slider 9800 to be announced.  You have to suspect RIM may announce something around the BlackPad (AKA BlackBerry Tablet).  It would be amazing if AT&T managed to lock in the iPad, Kindle (new model $189 AT&T 3G ) and RIM’s tablet for the data plans.  The FCC documents reference model RCY71UW, but from the images this looks like the slider we all know and love (real name is the BB Torch).  HOW DID VERIZON not get this device?

Hardware specs are rather standard luetooth, 802.11b/g/n, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1900, UMTS II (1900), V (850) are all go with the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800 MHz bands and UMTS I (2100) bands.  We will all know in the next hour or so.
