Bloomberg: iPhone Coming To Verizon In January

Verizon iPhone

According to two (unnamed)  people said to be familiar with the plans, the iPhone, currently exclusive to AT&T in the United States, will become available to Verizon subscribers starting in January of next year.  This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard this rumor.  It is, however, the first time that we’ve heard it from a news organization as big as Bloomberg.

The question for me was never one of “if” the iPhone would come to Verizon, but, more of “when” would the iPhone come to Verizon.  The big questions that I have now are:

  • How will Verizon’s network stand up? –  I think that Verizon could break the 1.7 million iPhones sold mark in the first day, and, if there is one thing that we know about iPhones, their owners use ridiculous amounts of data.
  • How will BlackBerry sales be adversely affected –  I am absolutely fanatical about the BlackBerry, but, not blind to fact many current BlackBerry users are more loyal to Verizon than they are to RIM.
  • Will a Verizon iPhone slow Android Momentum? –  We all know that every carrier has Android devices.  Verizon just sells the lions share of them.  A lot of people that would otherwise have gotten and Android device will definitely give the iPhone the once over.

These are just a few thoughts running through my head when I think about the iPhone coming to Verizon but I’d love to hear what you think…

Gowalla Releases Beta App For BlackBerry… Finally

Gowalla Beta for BlackBerry

Location based social check-in game Gowalla, has finally decided to get with the program and has (finally) released a beta application for the BlackBerry.  Let’s just say that Gowalla for BlackBerry is long over due.

Foursquare, another LBS social check-in application has a commanding lead here in the United States.  It will be interesting to see if Gowalla can make a dent.

BlackBerrys Add 10 Extra Days Of Work Per Year In The UK

Man Using BlackBerry

According to a report in the Telegraph.co.uk this morining, BlackBerrys and other mobile devices account for an extra 10 days work per year for Brittons in the UK.

Is that all?

Maybe its just me, but, 10 days (80 hours) over the course of a full work week just doesn’t seem like that much.   If you just used your BlackBerry 30 to 60 minutes per day outside of regular work hours, you would knock out 80 hours in a few months.

I know that labor laws are quite as friendly to employees here in the United States and I’d bet that 10 days per year is a bit on the low side for American workers.

BlackBerry Curve Number One Selling Smartphone In The U.S.

BlackBerry Curve

According to Port-Washington, New York based researcher, NPD, the BlackBerry Curve 83xx was the number one selling smartphone in the United States last quarter, again, edging out the iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G which took 2nd and 3rd places respectively.  The BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Tour rounded out the top 5 following in the 4 and 5 spots.

There are several new BlackBerry devices out this quarter, namely the BlackBerry Storm2, BlackBerry Curve 85xx, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  It will be interesting to see if the original Curve can maintain a spot in the top five.
