UberTwitter Beta 8 Now Available with Unique Twitter Features

UberTwitter Beta 8 is now available for download and it has some cool features that are very unique to BlackBerry Twitter clients. One particularly cool feature, is the ability to mute Twitter users so that you can continue to follow them, but their tweets will not show up in your timeline. This is a great new feature because it allows you to maintain the courtesy of following a user, without having to actually read their messages. You can have this feature expire as well, so you only have the user muted for ‘x’ number of days.

Another cool feature in UberTwitter Beta 8 is the ability to add and remove items from what’s called the “UberBar”. The UberBar has the basic Twitter navigation including @ replies, direct messages and the timeline. You can add trending topics, searches as well as users to your UberBar in order to better manage your timeline and users. Overall, it’s features like these that are going to get users to change over from their current Twitter app of choice. Users probably aren’t married to any one Twitter client and as long as companies are continually innovating, the users will come.

UberTwitter Version 0.970 Available for Download

UberTwitter have launched version 0.970 and they’ve included a nice changelog for those looking to see what specific updates and fixes have occurred. Some of the notable updates include the ability to opt out of sponsored tweets, delete direct messages and they’ve added a new shortcut for scrolling up your timeline (press ‘0′). The following changes have been made from 0.963 to 0.970

  • Java exceptions on device boot – Fixed issue where java exceptions would be reported on device reboot due to lack of permissions.
  • Opt-out of sponsored tweets – Users can now opt out of receiving sponsored tweets.
  • Goto User bug fix – Fixed bug where entering a user not in your timeline and then pressing trackball wouldn’t use the text you entered but instead find the closest match from your friends list.
  • Everyone Near You – Fixed bug where it wouldn’t uses your current location, and sometimes would revert to somewhere off the coast of Africa. Also increased the distance to a 10 mile radius, in the future we will let you select this.
  • Mini-Icon Notification – Fixed bug where if the app didn’t have certain permissions not related to the mini-icon, it still wouldn’t show the mini-icon.
  • Fine-Tuned control of visual notifications – There are now three settings each for the mini-icon and application icon so you can fine-tune the control over how you want each to notify you. Also, the number next to the mini-icon will only reflect the number of new tweets of the type it is tracking. For example, if you only set the mini-icon to track new DMs, then the number next to the mini-icon will only reflect the number of new DMs.
  • New short-cut for page-up – Added a new short-cut to page-up in the timeline, pressing ‘0′ (zero) will now page up in the timeline.
  • Instability when using cell location – Fixed bug that would cause instability in the app when using cell tower location.
  • 3G Cell Tower Inaccuracy – Fixed a bug in the cell tower location mechanism when 3G towers were being used.
  • Symbol Screen – Again reworked the symbol screen.
  • Secure Connection – Changed the default Twitter endpoint so your traffic will travel over a secure HTTPS connection.
  • Deleting DMs – We now allow you to delete direct messages.
  • Constant permissions requests – Fixed bug where every time the app was started it would ask for permissions.

UberTwitter Beta 4 is now available to download!!

This release deepens support for Twitter features and takes further advantage of the capabilities available in your BlackBerry device and includes two important integrations with third party services; TwitVid for sending your Über videos embedded in tweets, and Bit.ly for shortening the links you might include in your tweets.

Below is the list of features and bug fixes that made it into this release. See Below for future additions.
* Multiple Accounts – You can now configure multiple accounts, each with their own set of on-device preferences.
* You can now BLOCK people!
* Video Integration – We have partnered with TwitVid.com to offer you an outstanding video integration.
* Goto user – You can now enter twitter users name and go directly to their timeline
* URL Shortening – we’ve integrated with bit.ly so you can easily send those long URLs now and not bump up against the 140 limit
* MUCH faster photo uploads, significantly improving the user experience.
* Use of the internal GPS is now solidly supported with proper fallback to cell tower based location when GPS isn’t available.
* Icon Caching If you have and SD card, we will cache avatar icons on the card, increasing the speed of timeline displays and reducing network traffic.
* You can now select pictures and videos that have already been take and are on your device. The interface shows the most recent at the top and offers a preview so you can verify it is the picture/video you expected!
* When composing a tweet you can now insert symbols from a large selection of commonly available characters such as smiley’s, hearts, etc.
* Integrated advertisements – Please note, the ads are there to support the freely distributable version of ÜberTwitter. Users that purchase ÜberTwitter will not have advertisement in their version.
* We’ve streamlined the friends and followers lists
* You can now see both the number of friends, followers, and tweets sent when viewing the details of a tweet.
* Replying to a DM from the timeline will now correctly send a DM and not a regular tweet
* Fixed the bug in reply all where it would truncate some twitter user names
* Added reply all to the menu when viewing a tweet

Being worked on for next release:
* Notification icons on the homescreen! We have heard you loud and clear, we will be adding this.
* Integration of a high functionality third-party photo service – We are VERY excited about this as we believe that it will bring an extremely rich photo sharing experience to our users.
* Integration into the BlackBerry browser such that URLs can be included directly in a tweet from the browser menu.
* Saved searches – integrate the new Twitter saved search API. Searches saved via the Twitter web site will be use able on ÜberTwitter and vice versa
* Twitter name menu – Type ‘@’ and a list of your friends automatically pops up allowing selection

ÜberTwitter Beta 3 Build 0.78 Now Avaialble

UberTwitter As some of you may already know, ÜberTwitter Beta 3 was recently released and many users experienced problems with their timeline not updating properly.  Just a day after the launch, however, ÜberTwitter was updated to correct the problem.

We have put up version 0.78 this morning which will resolve the timeline update issues that some users were seeing. In addition, this version allows the option to update your timeline when you open the application. Please download this version even if you are not seeing any issues with 0.75.
