RIM Working On BlackBerry Devices With External Antennas?

BlackBerry With External Antenna

Word on the street is that Research in Motion is working on new BlackBerry devices that will sport external antennas, you know, like the one that they iPhone 4 has, except, they will actually work.  You see, contrary to the the popular belief of those born after Regan left office, mobile phones with external antennas was not a new idea created by Apple.  Apple just did a piss poor job at implementing it.

In the picture above you see a BlackBerry 9100 with an external antenna, and, rumor has it that there are a bunch of new model designs sporting this design.  RIM, for years, has been known for superior antenna design, however, even if they weren’t you could bet your last dollar that any device with even a hint of the antenna issues that the iPhone 4 has would never see the light of day.

BlackBerry Torch $199 with 2 Year AT&T Contract

Post image for BlackBerry Torch $199 with 2 Year AT&T Contract

I just purchased the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and I am a Verizon customer, so while I am excited about OS 6 and the Slider Torch, I will not be switching to AT&T.  That said this is a great looking BlackBerry with a rocking OS.  Wait the first device running BlackBerry OS 6.  To say I am jealous would be an understatement.  Please Please Please let the Torch out sell the iPhone.  If I was an AT&T customer I would be pre-ordering the BlackBerry Torch 9800.  I doubt you will need a case to make it or be concerned with dropped calls (we all know this is not an AT&T issue).  RIM did an outstanding job with OS 6.  I am still unclear how the experience is on a non-touch screen device, but they added features that trump Google and Apple and looked familiar to Windows Phone 7.

Robb is sitting on an island some where in the Caribbean so he cannot comment yet, but being a true BlackBerry fan he needs sign an AT&T contract, just to give RIMarkable readers his hands on opinion of the BlackBerry Torch.  This would be a popular give-away device.  Hint…Hint Robb :) .  Okay before I get banned for writing on RIMarkable back on topic.  Who is buying the Torch?  bluehorseshoe?  Video and Press Release after break.  Update: BlackBerry Torch is $499.99 without a contract.

Hootsuite for BlackBerry Now Accepting Beta Testers

hootsuite owl

SocialScope is a great application because it gives you access to several accounts in one application. Hootsuite gives similar utility in that it allows you to access several accounts from your desktop in a single web app. Today, the company sent out a newsletter with a “BlackBerry Notes” section at the bottom that read:

Finally, fans of RIM’s Blackberry phones can almost…. finally begin Hoot-ing since HootBerry is just about ready for beta release. To get on-board for early access, simply sign up at: http://ow.ly/2aRUx and you’ll be among the first to try the new tool.

Of course the company won’t be naming the application HootBerry, as that would conflict with the vendor agreement on App World. Unless they never plan to distribute using App World which would be a little silly. If anyone gets accepted to the Beta, let us know what you think! Use the above ow.ly link to find the beta registration form.
