BOLT Mobile Browser Updates to 1.7

Last week Bitstream Inc. celebrated the one year anniversary of their popular BOLT mobile browser with an update to version 1.7. Originally released for public beta in February of 2009, the company is reportedly very excited with this announcement and is continuing to push forward to lead the industry in hopes of becoming the ideal choice for your mobile web browsing needs.

The obvious goal in mobile web browsing for any developer would be to recreate the desktop web browsing experience. With the advanced capabilities of smartphones, the margin between a mobile experience and a desktop experience is shortening at an exponential rate. This is evidenced by phones such as the iPhone, Droid, and Nexus One; just to name a few. With BOLT, Bitstream Inc. has not only been able to emulate this experience, they have done so while providing compatibility to a wide range of mobile phones aside from smartphones. From very basic handsets to more advanced devices such as the BlackBerry, it is this niche that will set BOLT apart from the competition in the saturated race to being regarded as the best mobile experience.

This latest revision of the BOLT mobile browser includes many usability enhancements including keypad shortcuts and compatibility to multiple video sharing websites other than YouTube. Along with this, the introduction of features such as widget functionality and twitter integration all deliver the promise of a more enriched and user friendly experience.

BOLT and BOLT Lite are both available for free download at http://boltbrowser.com.Bolt is compatible with just about any device running Java. This includes BlackBerry, Palm and Windows mobile.

Press Release Excerpts:
“Launching Didiom on the BlackBerry App World is a giant step forward for us in reaching the rapidly-growing BlackBerry community,” said Ran Assaf, Didiom’s founder and CEO. “Didiom doesn’t only eliminate the need for synching your iTunes library with your phone via USB; it also shifts the paradigm on how we mobilize our home computer’s media library. When you wait for a flight, stand in line at a busy Starbucks, or walk your dog, you can easily access your computer from your phone and stream anything from the latest audiobooks you’ve downloaded from Barnes & Noble to the latest podcasts you’ve downloaded from CNN, The Wall Street Journal, or ESPN.”
Didiom’s hybrid service is built upon the company’s proprietary, placeshifting technology and wireless content delivery platform. Throughout the beta period, Didiom offers a free mobile application for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones, as well as a desktop application that seamlessly scans users’ personal computers, and maintains an encrypted channel between the user’s computer and phone. When users add new audio files to their computer, Didiom’s desktop application automatically scans and makes them available for wireless streaming on their phone.

Available on these Devices:

BlackBerry® Tour™, BlackBerry® Bold™, BlackBerry® Curve™, BlackBerry® Pearl™, and BlackBerry® 8800 series. As a bonus, all new users will receive 25 free, pre-selected songs from up-and-coming artists, ready for download to their phone and PC/Mac.

Official WordPress For BlackBerry App Now In Public Beta

WordPress for BlackBerryWe have been waitng for an official WordPress for BlackBerry application for what seems like an eternity, however, not too long after Automattic, the company behind WordPress, announced that there would be a WordPress for BlackBerry application, we have a beta that is publicly available for download.

I’ve just installed WordPress for BlackBerry on my Storm and, although I haven’t had the chances to completely put it through the paces, I’ve got to admit that it is pretty good for beta.   I was able add a blog and create a new post with a picture pretty easily.  The app is still a little rough around the edges, but, you can definitely see the potential and I can’t wait until the production release comes out.

If you own a BlackBerry and run a WordPress Blog, WordPress for BlackBerry is definitely one app you will want to keep an eye on.
