BlackBerry 6 Homescreen Screenshots and More Details Revealed

Inside BlackBerry sat down with Joey Benedek, Director of UX Research at RIM. The UX organization is responsible for understanding user needs and desires and translating those into interface designs. Benedek walks us through some of the new features in BlackBerry 6 and confirms a lot of what we’ve seen in leaked videos.

For example, we know that BlackBerry 6 has five separate views that a user can switch between using the Navigation Bar, depending on their preference and the type of information they’re looking for. The five sections that are present on the homescreen include:

  • Frequent
  • Favorites
  • Downloads
  • Media
  • All

By creating these five sections, users have less icons shown at once, making the user experience much more smooth. Another new feature described by Benedek is the new Quick Access Areas of which there are two. The first Quick Access Area is designed so you have fast access to the Connections, Alarm and Options screens. These are things that users want to frequently change or adjust and BlackBerry 6 allows you to do this quickly.

The other quick access area on the Home Screen is designed to enable you to view your most recent messages (such as email, text, BlackBerry Messenger), phone calls, upcoming appointments, Facebook and Twitter notifications simply by tapping the Notification Bar in the middle of the top of the Home Screen. If you click on the Notification Bar, it drops down to show who the notifications are from, along with the first few words from the title. This feature makes it much easier to prioritize which notifications you want to respond to first.

There are a host of other screenshots and details about BlackBerry 6 from Inside BlackBerry so check them out.

Stuck IT Policy

Hey guys and gals,
I got a question for ya. I had a Curve activated to my BES. IT Policy added to it. The user got a new device. I reactivated him with his new PIN. I did a wipe on his old device, but when I turn it back on, it’s requesting a new password (part of the policy). I entered one and looked at the General Settings in Options Security. It still has my policy on it.
Here’s the question. How do I get that policy off? This device will be going to an outside user and they don’t want that password and whatever else is on there.

Will The BlackBerry Twitter Client Social Scope Ever Come Out Of Beta?

Social Scope

When it comes to BlackBerry Twitter clients, there certainly is no shortage of options for you to choose from.  Unfortunately, however, the BlackBerry Twitter client considered by many to be the best, Social Scope, has been in closed beta for what seems like the past couple of years and a production release, or, even an open beta available to whomever wishes to download it is no where in sight.

Will Social Scope ever come out of beta?

For those of you lucky enough to have the latest version, is it worth the wait?  Personally, I’ve moved on a while ago.  The Official Twitter for BlackBerry client is my BlackBerry Twitter app of choice and I have UberTwitter installed as well.  Ever now and again, however, I hear some say how awesome Social Scope is and it makes me wonder why they haven’t released it yet.

Oh yeah…  Be sure to follow @RIMarkable regardless of what BlackBerry Twitter client you are using…

BES e-mail filters, PIN vs CC’ed

Hello everyone,

New to the forums, so I’m not sure if this post belongs here but here goes my question.

My company, used to have the old "brick" BBs, which we were all setup on with BIS. Now on BIS, the e-mail filtering was pretty straight forward. The nature of my job requires me to set a specific address to trigger Level 1 PINs, but sometimes, the e-mail address gets cc’ed. On BIS this was super easy to filter.

I would put in the To: field [email address] => send me a Level 1 PIN
In the CC: field, [email address] => Forward as mail (thus not triggering PIN alert)

Now we’ve been given some Bold 9000 (I’m pretty sure) and we’re on BES, and for the life of me, I cannot replicate the same level of filtering as I used to in BIS.

BES has more options and this is my current setup.

I should add that [email address] is a group distribution list

I have filter "A" , Sent to: [email address], forward as Level 1 PIN
Filter B, Sent to: [email address], CC: to me and BCC to me:, forward mail.

As it stands, my Filter B (the one where [email address] is included in the CC field) is completely ignored, and ALWAYS sends stuff as a Level 1 PIN.

I’ve tried configuring Filter A to have the box "sent directly to me", but when [email address] is in the To: field, it does NOT trigger a Level 1 PIN.

Moving my Filter B ahead of Filter A (so the CC rule is first), still ignores the CC’ed rule.

I’m at a loss, and don’t know now if our BES admin needs to change some setting, in which case I am S.O.L.

Can someone advise if it’s possible to configure the BES filters to get the same functionality of the super simple BIS filters?
