8900 pointer not working…

woke up this morning and the pointer on my 8900 doesn’t work…it goes in one direction, right, but not left. I looked on the blackberry site and they note that this has been an issue…they suggest it is similar to a "dirty" mouse and recommend that you move the cursor around quickly so the dirt may be dislodged. Tried this and now the pointer is not moving up or down accurately. Is there a way to clean the pointer? The only other option is to pay Blackberry $190 and see if they can fix it, or junk the one I have an buy a new one from T-Mobile. Any suggestions would be appreciated…

BB Professional v4.1 – MSDE to SQL 2005 (In-place upgrade)

We have BB Professional v4.1.4.3 installed on a Windows 2003 Server R2 member server. The BESMgmt database uses MSDE. We are about to upgrade this server to MS SQL Server 2005 for an application that also runs on this box. It will be an in-place upgrade of SQL. Which process should I follow to transition the BB BESMgmt database across to SQL 2005 from MSDE?

I’ve read KB03112 but this seems to be for moving a database to a different physical box. Or should I treat this as if this is a new installation, i.e.:

- Backup the BESMgmt database to disc
- Perform the upgrade from MSDE to SQL 2005
- Use createdb.exe to update the existing BESMgmt schema to that of the installed SQL version (SQL 2005) (by the way does createdb know which version of SQL it is dealing with and update the schema appropriately or do I need to do something else here?)
- Restore the database using the SQL Management Studio (I presume as it restores it uses the new schema it is being restored to?)

Any help gratefully accepted. Or slaps to the face for being a rookie…

Thank you,

Richard Lowe

Moving from Professional to Express

Hello,

It reneal time for our phone contract and the powers that be have changed suppliers (Orange to Vodaphone (UK)). To save costs they have decided to to go with BES Express 5.0.1 (Bundle 12) – currently using 4.1.4 (Bundle 143) BES Professional. We are also getting new handsets.

The Express server is set up on the Exchange (2003) server (less than 25 devices) and the Professional server is on a different server.

Whats the best way to migrate the users to the new server and new handsets with the minimum of disruption (bearing in mind I had to descibe over the phone where the Enter key was on a laptop keyboard to one user yesterday)?

Thanks
Tony

RIM is moving at a really great pace lately when it comes to updating their software. The beta program is an excellent idea as it helps users get fast access to software and lets them know that they’re working hard to give users a better overall experience. The latest newcomer to the beta program is the upcoming BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0. The first invitations to join the program are going out, or have gone out today for Beta Zone members. BES e-mail filters, PIN vs CC’ed

Hello everyone,

New to the forums, so I’m not sure if this post belongs here but here goes my question.

My company, used to have the old "brick" BBs, which we were all setup on with BIS. Now on BIS, the e-mail filtering was pretty straight forward. The nature of my job requires me to set a specific address to trigger Level 1 PINs, but sometimes, the e-mail address gets cc’ed. On BIS this was super easy to filter.

I would put in the To: field [email address] => send me a Level 1 PIN
In the CC: field, [email address] => Forward as mail (thus not triggering PIN alert)

Now we’ve been given some Bold 9000 (I’m pretty sure) and we’re on BES, and for the life of me, I cannot replicate the same level of filtering as I used to in BIS.

BES has more options and this is my current setup.

I should add that [email address] is a group distribution list

I have filter "A" , Sent to: [email address], forward as Level 1 PIN
Filter B, Sent to: [email address], CC: to me and BCC to me:, forward mail.

As it stands, my Filter B (the one where [email address] is included in the CC field) is completely ignored, and ALWAYS sends stuff as a Level 1 PIN.

I’ve tried configuring Filter A to have the box "sent directly to me", but when [email address] is in the To: field, it does NOT trigger a Level 1 PIN.

Moving my Filter B ahead of Filter A (so the CC rule is first), still ignores the CC’ed rule.

I’m at a loss, and don’t know now if our BES admin needs to change some setting, in which case I am S.O.L.

Can someone advise if it’s possible to configure the BES filters to get the same functionality of the super simple BIS filters?
