Blackberry MDS runtime application

Hi,

I am new to blackberry development and I am a Visual Studio user. I have VS 2008 and installed the vs_plugin_21.exe. I have created sample applications that accompanied the video (Blackberry widgets) and they are great. At the same time I have seen another tutorial (MDS runtime application here: blackberry.com/DevMediaLibrary/view.do?name=flash) wherein you can add controls to the form and then simulate just like a windows desktop application.
I am searching for the MDS plug in into VS 2008 so that i can create sample applications but I cant.

Please advice where I can find this component.

Thanks,
Stephen

BES Express 5 Services and Accounts

I have BES Express 5 running on Windows 2008 linked to Exchange 2007.

One of our other network admins changed all of the Blackberry services in Win2008 to login and run under the local machine system account. Unfortunately, this brought our BES to a halt.

Here’s the services I have:
Blackberry Administration Service – Application Server
Blackberry Administration Service – Native Code Container
Blackberry Alert
Blackberry Attachment Service
Blackberry Controller
Blackberry Dispatcher
Blackberry Mail Store Service
Blackberry MDS Connection Service
Blackberry Policy Service
Blackberry Router
Blackberry Synchronization Service

I can’t find which services are supposed to run under local system and which are supposed to run under the domain BESadmin account. Does anyone have a list of which are which?

CheckStandbyFailover: Unable to ping active host through ICMP

Does this ring a bell ?

I get this error a couple of times and then they are gone for a while to reappear the next night. I think it might have something to do with my MDS CS going down ?

RIM announces End of Life for BlackBerry MDS Runtime and Studio

bb_mds_arch_large

BlackBerry MDS (Mobile Data System) is a development framework for BlackBerry that allows developers to use Visual Studio as a platform and use what RIM calls a RAD (rapid application development) method. The RAD development method involves a drag and drop interface where you can then create the code behind your forms to do the work.

This news comes after RIM announced new plug-ins for Eclipse and Visual Studio. It seems that RIM is focusing on the Java and web development platforms so platforms such as MDS are all getting canceled.

As of December 31st,2009, both BlackBerry MDS Runtime and Studio will no longer be available. Runtime and Studio will lose support as of June 30th, 2010.

[Thanks for the tip J.M.]

UPDATE: Official notice from RIM.
