Accepting iCalendar invitations on BB9700

I have a Bold 9700. I’m running the GMail app for my work, and my Hotmail goes to the regular Inbox. My calendar is synced with my Google calendar through the Google Sync App.

A lot of my colleagues use Macs – and I get a lot of "iCal event invitations". They arrive with the ".ics" file – but I cannot accept them on the BB direct from GMail. If I try to open the file, it just says "Attachment could not be displayed".

I can go to my PC, open the mail there in Gmail, and then accept it onto my Google calendar – which then syncs to the BB – or I can forward the mail to myself at Hotmail, where it appears in my regular BB inbox and works fine. But it does not work from Gmail. Is there a plug-in or setting on the BB that will allow me to accept "ics" invitations direct from the Gmail App?

Thanks – and sorry if this question is a bit basic. I’m new to Blackberry and clueless on Macs!
Rob.

Dear BlackBerryCool: Is this a Contest a Hoax?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I received this mail can you please confirm if this is correct or not?

Dear All,

Blackberry is giving away free phones as part of their promotional drive. All you need to do is send a copy of this email to 8 people; and you will receive your phone in less than 24 hrs. Please note that if you send to more than 20 people you will receive two phones.

Please do not forget to send a copy to: amanda.lee@blackberry.com

With Regards,

Legal Executive

Hi Rommel,

You’re a Legal Executive and you’re asking me if “BlackBerry” (not the company name) is giving away 2 free devices to everyone that sends 20 emails? You are hilarious.

Listen Idiot, I am dealing with this for a client. If you took notice of the subject you would understand, but, then how could I expect that from a person who can only see as far as there eyelashes. All I needed was a yes or no. Get some education.

Regards,
Rommel

Rommel,

Actually, yes. It’s real. Sorry for being so curt.

BlackBerry is giving away 2 free devices worth around $1200 to everyone who sends 20 emails. There are no restrictions on this contest, so that means around 6.6 billion people are eligible. The contest won’t reach everyone, I’m sure only 2 billion or so will respond. BlackBerry will therefore be giving away 2.4 trillion dollars worth of BlackBerrys. Their market cap is only 28.56 billion, so I’m not sure how they’re going to afford this contest, but I’m so happy they’re doing it. All of my friends and I are entering. You should too.

-Kyle

Kyle,

Sure will do!

Regards

Rommel

BB Browser won’t go online but Opera works! *UNUSUAL*

Hi,

I recently got my hands on a 8520 Curve and I got the data plan to go with it. I can to surf the net using Opera but no other data app, including BB Browser, works. I unlocked this phone using an unlock code (15 bucks (n) ). Also used a software to make it BES free so I can enable and disable password and firewall.

Still however I am unable to use BB browser, preinstall AIM and MAIL. It is annoying not to have these work as I can’t download apps directly from my BB using the BB Browser.

I do apologize if this was answered before. I am not sure whats going on here or what to type in the searches. Any help or advice will be appriciated. :-)

Attachment from RIM

My company just installed 2008 SBS for a client (we’re a SMB IT Consulting firm) and we’re working on getting just a couple of BBs set up on the new server. We are using BIS (Sprint / Nextel) with 2007 Exchange. One user is getting mail but slowly. In addition, he is getting a message from RIM with each email that reads "This message is used to carry data between the BB handheld… Do not delete… It will be processed by the server". Is this message supposed to be deleted by the server and the BIS service automatically?

Sincerely,
Brian Fink
