Rumor: BlackBerry Torch Slider 9800 Coming to Vodafone

vodafone

The BlackBerry Torch Slider is potentially coming to Vodafone in the September/October timeframe. We have heard that 9800 will be coming to Rogers, Sprint and AT&T as well. Release dates aren’t confirmed yet but the Torch Slider is probably going to touch down on AT&T first, with a rumored launch date of August 15th.

The Torch Slider is going to be the first device to have BlackBerry 6 and the new Webkit browser. The latest OS is going to address a lot of the user frustrations with navigation and the Webkit browser will make BlackBerry’s web browser on par with the rest of the market.

Blackberry Apps Question

HEY, i used to own a 9000, and i couldnt install apps on it. if i remember corectly it said something about not being able to install it in my country, that you had to be in the US or Canada. that was 2 years ago. is that limitation still on? cause i want a 9700, switching from the iphone, but if i cant install apps,,,, i’m not gonna switch.also, are there a lot of apps, like unit converters, games stuff like that?
also, one last question, is the browser livable? since im comin from a iphone 3g, the internet is pretty importnat to me, so let me know if its acceptable. i kno the 9000 was pretty horrible, but i hope the 9700 is much faster/better
thanks in advance

Bolt Browser Updated To v2.11 — Fixes A Lot Of Bugs

Bolt, a third part web browser that makes viewing web pages on a BlackBerry device tolerable, has been updated to version 2.11.  BitStream says that the update to Bolt doesn’t add new functionality, however, it does address several issues (read bugs) with the previous version…

Bitstream is releasing a new update of the BOLT mobile browser: version 2.11.  The 2.11 release includes important updates that address server response times which eliminates the problem on some websites that has caused BOLT to hang at 20 percent on the progress bar, as well as improves Twitter use.  Although there are no new features in this release, Bitstream strongly recommends all users update to this new version for an improved mobile browsing experience.

GetJar Names Kayak Travel App For Mobile The Best BlackBerry App Of 2010

Kayak Travel App for Mobile

GetJar, the second biggest app store in the world, held their Gettie Awards 2010 event a few nights ago where they announce their picks for the best mobile applications of the year across multiple platforms.  In the the BlackBerry category, Kayak Travel App for Mobile took home the top spot.

I have to admit, that I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of the Kayak BlackBerry application but it is appears to be a mobile client that integrates with back end of the the Kayak.com travel which I have actually heard a lot of good things about.

Kayak Travel App for Mobile is a free BlackBerry application so it is probably definitely worth taking a look at, especially if you are looking for great deals on airfare and hotels.

Research in Motion Annual General Meeting (AGM) Live Coverage

RIM will hold its AGM of shareholders today at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) at 6:30 PM ET. It should be an interesting meeting as a lot of shareholders will be asking what the company’s plan is considering the increased competition in the smartphone market, and how the company plans to remain competitive. If one had to guess how the meeting will go, it will likely be focused on the recent announcements and won’t go into much detail about the competition, if at all. RIM generally doesn’t like to comment on any other smartphone.

Here are some of the topics you can expect RIM to highlight:

App World 2.0 and the benefits of carrier billing and 5.0 preloads.
BlackBerry Protect
BlackBerry OS 6 from a developer perspective.
BlackBerry OS 6 from a consumer perspective.
The BlackBerry Bold 9650
The BlackBerry Pearl 3G

You can watch a live webcast of the event by logging on at their investors’ portal.
You can also join Financial Post Technology reporter Matt Hartley as he reports live from the RIM AGM.

We’ll also be writing articles if anything of interest is said at the event.
