Verizon 2010/2011 Roadmap Leaked… BlackBerry Not Even Mentioned

Leaked Verizon Roadmap

A BGR Source has leaked Verizon roadmap plans for the remainder of 2010, 2011, and even a bit of 2012.  There is a lot of focus on LTE and Android, however, news about Research in Motion and upcoming BlackBerry devices was not present on the roadmap at all.

It is clear that Verizon is putting its money on Android, however, it will be interesting to see if big red, who once accounted for 40% of all of Research in Motion’s revenue, will continue to push BlackBerry devices, or, relegate it’s former flagship smartphone line to “devices they still sell” status.

Leaked Verizon 2010/2011 Roadmap

  • In addition to the Motorola DROID and Motorola DROID X, we’re told Motorola will launch a new DROID handset, the Motorola DROID Pro. It is supposed to have a 1.3GHz CPU, 4? screen and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010
  • Motorola is working with Verizon on a “slab form-factor” device that sort of looks like an old Motorola Q but features a full touchscreen and global roaming. It will run Android 2.2. Maybe this will be a lower cost, MOTOBLUR handset?
  • There are a lot more Android invasions happening before the end of the year, we’re told. This includes a global Android device from both Samsung and HTC.
  • Samsung is working on a 7? screen Android tablet with front-facing camera. Motorola is also working on a tablet as well, except it will sport a 10? screen, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz CPU, front-facing camera, and Android 3.0. Don’t expect the Motorola so soon though, as we’re informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011.
  • Verizon Wireless is aiming and on track to have at least 75% of the country covered in LTE coverage by April 2012
  • There will be a Novatel LTE MiFi device available in January or February that will apparently support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users.
  • Lastly, we’re told LTE data pricing will stick at $59.99/month, though it’s unclear what the data allowance will be. (This is for data cards, not smartphones)

BlackBerry Desktop Manager – loading app shows HTML in app window?!?

Hey folks,

I just got my 9800 bold, and installed the software on my machine, using Windows 7 Ultimate, whenever I try and launch the Desktop Manager, I get the screenshot below. What gives? I have zero idea why this would be caused, but man it’s a first. Thoughts?

( It won’t let me post images since I’m a new member yet, so here is a broken down link, i apologize )

Rumor: Upcoming 4G BlackBerry “Triton” to Feature 5.0MP Front & Back Camera

Samir Sakpal, an analyst with Frost & Sullivan, claims that the upcoming 4G BlackBerry is codenamed Triton and is expected to offer a 5.0MP front and back facing camera. “The word is that they will have features such as a 5.0 megapixel camera with both front and back imaging, similar to the iPhone 4… for videoconferencing,” he says. According to Sakpal, the BlackBerry Triton is expected to launch in December

A 4G BlackBerry with a front facing camera is not a far-fetched rumor and although Sakpal’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt, you can assume that these devices will be getting faster, better and stronger. One thing we do know, is that RIM is going to ensure that video conferencing is done with the least amount of impact on the carriers’ networks and that security will be a top priority.

Rumor: BlackBerry Torch Slider 9800 Coming to Vodafone

vodafone

The BlackBerry Torch Slider is potentially coming to Vodafone in the September/October timeframe. We have heard that 9800 will be coming to Rogers, Sprint and AT&T as well. Release dates aren’t confirmed yet but the Torch Slider is probably going to touch down on AT&T first, with a rumored launch date of August 15th.

The Torch Slider is going to be the first device to have BlackBerry 6 and the new Webkit browser. The latest OS is going to address a lot of the user frustrations with navigation and the Webkit browser will make BlackBerry’s web browser on par with the rest of the market.
