TeleNav Is Giving Away An Apple iPad

Navigation leader TeleNav started a simple to enter contest today to win a Apple iPad.

How do you enter?

Starting Monday, February 22nd until Sunday, March 7th, all you have to do is (1) take a photo of yourself at your favorite place holding up a note (can be handwritten) that clearly starts “Dear TeleNav,” and in the following seven words state why you love that place! Then (2) submit the photo directly on the wall of their Facebook Page. All entries must be received by 11:59PM PST on March 7th.

For example, if you’re at a coffee shop, you might hold up a sign saying, “ Dear TeleNav, I love their really big blueberry scones!” or if you’re at a restaurant, you might have a note that says, “ Dear TeleNav,they have the most incredible pepperoni pizzas!”

For a complete list of rules and more information please visit the TeleNav Blog directly via this link. Good Luck!

Frequently Asked Questions About BES Express

The official BlackBerry blog have put up a FAQ answer page for BES Express, with a few helpful details about the new service. BES Express means you get full push and sync BlackBerry services, and your IT department gets a secure management system, all for free. The services will not cost your organization additional licenses, making it very affordable. Personally, I’m still waiting to hear more about how BES Express will interact with Google Apps, and a few of the commenters have asked this question.

Head over to Inside BlackBerry to read the FAQ.

Rogers Launches Official Blog RedBoard

Rogers have been pretty active in the social media space with a wide variety of Twitter accounts and now an official blog. It reminds me of a lot of what RIM are doing with their official blogs and Twitter accounts. It’s still not clear what these huge organizations hope to gain from using these social media initiatives, other than a few satisfied customers here and there. The fact is that these companies have an incredible reach, millions of individuals, and yet their Twitter accounts are really only reaching in the thousands. It’s not that I think the blogs and Twitter accounts are a bad idea, I just don’t know if it’s really going to get the PR response they’re hoping for. In any case, these companies have a lot of money and can afford to test any social media initiative. Hopefully these initiatives mean something for customers in the long run, and don’t serve to provide duplicate information that can be found elsewhere.

BlackBerry Web Plug-Ins For Eclipse and Visual Studio Now Available

BlackBerry Web Plugin version 2.0 Beta 1

BlackBerry Web Plugin version 2.0 Beta 1 has been released for both Eclipse and Microsoft Visual Studio.

The BIG news for this release is the new support for building BlackBerry® Widget projects.  These tools will allow you to create BlackBerry Widgets in a much more automated manner compared to calling the BlackBerry Widget SDK via the command line. We have also added a getting started page that will appear when you start using the tooling that will connect you with the right online resources, forums and content to speed your widget development.

To make a long story short BlackBerry development should become much easier as the new Web Plugins make easier to create, debug and package up browser-based content and BlackBerry Widgets for the BlackBerry smartphone.

BlackBerry Users Suffer Worldwide BIS Outage

BlackBerry

There were numerous reports yesterday from BlackBerry users around the world that they weren’t able to send and receive emails, PINs, or use BlackBerry Messenger.  It would appear that there was a massive worldwide BlackBerry Internet Service outage yesterday affecting, pretty much, everyone.

As many outages as RIM has had you would think that they would be better at handling them then they are.  Notifiy your customer base.  Let BlackBerry users know that there is something going wrong and that you are working to correct the problem.  You have an official BlackBerry blog for crying out loud.

There is no doubt that just about every BlackBerry blog out there is going to have something about your BIS outage posted today.  It makes no sense that your own blog says nothing.  The BIS outage itself makes you look bad.  Being so closed lipped about it makes you look inept.
