BBC iPlayer Available for Bold 9700 and Storm2 Over WiFi Via Mobile Site

There are a ton of conditions in that title, isn’t there? The BBC iPlayer is now available as a mobile site that you can only access over WiFi, with from what I’ve read only the 9700 and the Storm2. While trying to access the site over 3G on Rogers, I got an error saying that the content is only available over 3G in the UK on 3’s network. By using WiFi, this seems to solve the problem and I can watch full videos and small clips from the site. Personally, I think it’s too bad that the player didn’t come as a BlackBerry app, as we all know the browser is relatively slow.

RIM dominates the top selling smartphones in Q3

blackberry_curve_8300

The BlackBerry Curve 8300 was the top selling smartphone in the US again, according to the NPD Group. RIM beat out the iPhone 3GS and 3G which came in second and third. What really drove home sales for RIM was taking the rest of the top 5 with the Tour and Storm.

NPD is saying the BOGO campaigns (Buy One Get One) were largely responsible for the Curve taking the lead, and prices for the devices are lower than ever. Globally, prepaid BlackBerry plans are driving sales, and regions such as Asia and Latin America are going to be big revenue generators for RIM.

BlackBerry Curve Number One Selling Smartphone In The U.S.

BlackBerry Curve

According to Port-Washington, New York based researcher, NPD, the BlackBerry Curve 83xx was the number one selling smartphone in the United States last quarter, again, edging out the iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G which took 2nd and 3rd places respectively.  The BlackBerry Storm and the BlackBerry Tour rounded out the top 5 following in the 4 and 5 spots.

There are several new BlackBerry devices out this quarter, namely the BlackBerry Storm2, BlackBerry Curve 85xx, and the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  It will be interesting to see if the original Curve can maintain a spot in the top five.

TELUS launches the BlackBerry Storm2

TELUS_blackberry_storm2

The new BlackBerry Storm 2 is now available at TELUS on their 3G (CDMA) network for $199.99 on a 3-year contract. You can also buy the device sans contract for $599.99, but it’s rare that anyone commits that much cash up front these days. In any case, we’re hoping this device does well for TELUS.

See the TELUS site for more details of the upcoming BlackBerry Storm2.
